Apple hints at supporting Cryptocurrency Payments soon

Updated: Jul 28, 2021

Apple's recent job posting about the hiring of a "Business Development Manager- Alternative Payments," has raised the question about the tech giant's interest in cryptocurrency.

The job ad stated:

The Apple Wallets, Payments, and Commerce (WPC) team is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to lead Alternative Payments Partnerships.
We are looking for a candidate who is comfortable with ambiguity, enjoys thinking about edge cases and asking “what is an alternative way of doing this”, and is a strong verbal and written communicator with a high level of integrity, energy, and sense of urgency to “make things happen”.

And further while stating the "key qualifications" including:

5+ years experience working in or with alternative payment providers, such as digital wallets, BNPL, Fast Payments, cryptocurrency and etc..

The tech giant has been cryptic about making any official statement yet, maybe because of the recent vacillating trends in cryptocurrency. We know that Apple also banned mining on iPhone and doesn't allow its digital wallet to be used for purchasing cryptocurrencies.

Apple's support for cryptocurrency would surely be a huge step forward in the industry, but nothing can be said for sure just yet.

Let's see whether the speculations would be true in the near or far future.
