Microsoft is finally ending an era by putting an end to Internet Explorer in 2022

Updated: May 24, 2021

Microsoft has finally decided to put the nail in the coffin for its 26 years old, almost useless browser, Internet Explorer, which will be retiring on June 15, 2022, in the favor of Microsoft Edge.

“Today, we are at the next stage of that journey: we are announcing that the future of Internet Explorer on Windows 10 is in Microsoft Edge. Not only is Microsoft Edge a faster, more secure, and more modern browsing experience than Internet Explorer, but it is also able to address a key concern: compatibility for older, legacy websites and applications....the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will be retired and go out of support on June 15, 2022, for certain versions of Windows 10, said Sean Lyndersay, a Microsoft Blog Manager.

Internet Explorer OFF; Microsoft Edge ON

The tech giant has finally decided to replace Internet Explorer with Microsoft Edge, to compete against the most powerful rival, Google Chrome. Here’s why;

  • Better Compatibility; With its dual engine advantage, Edge is the only compatible browser that offers Internet Explorer-based legacy websites as well as support for modern websites.

  • Efficient Productivity; without getting frustrated by using different browsers for unique purposes, Edge will allow you to organize your information and streamline the process.

  • Enhanced Security; Edge provides the best protection against phishing attacks and various malware as compared to Internet Explorer.

Note from MS: This retirement of Internet Explorer does not affect in-market Windows 10 LTSC or Internet Explorer 11 desktop applications, nor does it affect the MSHTML (Trident) engine. If you want to know that how does it impact you, please see FAQ.
